The current free Corona vaccination and testing services and free medication are to be extended until the end of June 2023. This provides for an initiative motion introduced by the government factions ÖVP and Greens on Friday evening in the National Council, which is to be decided in December in the National Council plenary.
The federal government has decided to “continue the existing funding of these important measures until the end of June 2023, thus providing security in the continued fight against the pandemic,” the health department of Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) said in a statement this evening.
In addition to the free Corona vaccinations and free medications, the existing testing system (with five free PCR tests and five free rapid antigen tests per month) will remain in place until mid-2023.
“The pandemic is not over yet.”
He said the pandemic is not over yet, and caution is still needed. “Even though the infection situation in Austria is currently optimistic, further waves over the winter are likely, and the risk of new variants and mutations remains,” the release said.
“We as the federal government have worked with experts to develop a comprehensive variant management plan that will serve as our preparation for the coming months,” Rauch referred to the known plans. “This continues to include our most important tools: Vaccinations, medications, and testing – low-threshold, free of charge, and available throughout Austria.”
